I'm Tom. I build things for .
Software engineer at Go Ape, where I look after websites, apps, and infrastructure across 37 sites. Before that, I sold sofas, holidays, and tutoring services. I was even Santa Claus once.
Based in the Peak District. Usually found paragliding, climbing, running up hills, or taking photos on film.
The short version
I'm a Software Engineer at Go Ape - the treetop adventure people. I look after their websites, internal tools, and tech infrastructure across 37 UK sites. It's just me, so I've gotten pretty good at wearing multiple hats.
The path here wasn't straight. I spent years in sales first, including a stint where I hit £1m in my first year selling sofas. Turns out that experience translates well to tech - I can actually explain what I've built without resorting to jargon.
I just finished my Computing & IT degree with the Open University (2:1) while working full-time. The stack I work with daily: Laravel, React, Vue, and Astro.
When I'm not coding:
- → Paragliding (weather permitting, which in the Peak District means occasionally)
- → Trail running and climbing - there's lots of hills here
- → Shooting film photography, mostly portraits
Some things I've built
Side projects and freelance work. Each one started with a real problem that needed solving.
Paragliding Club Membership System
A comprehensive web application for managing club memberships, payments, and member communications for a paragliding club with 200+ members.
75 Together
A React Native fitness challenge app connecting participants across the country with progress tracking, social features, and community engagement.
RFID Race Timing System
A custom-built race timing solution using Raspberry Pi and UHF RFID technology, providing live results for fell running events.
Film photography
Shot on film, a mix of portraits, landscapes, and my adventures. Typically in the Peak District with an old camera.
